Going to the Zoo

I love the zoo.  Ok, I just love animals.  Period.  Except bugs.  Don’t like bugs.  But I love the zoo – I love to see all the different animals, and all the opportunities they offer to photograph them.  I was at the Toronto Zoo about five years ago, and the Indianapolis Zoo about 2 years ago – I think I’m due for another visit.  The attached photos are from the Indy Zoo, and I often wonder if I were to go there today, what I would do differently.  Would I choose a different angle to shoot, a different time of day or year, spend more time at one exhibit over another…. we have next week off for vacation; maybe we’ll take a visit to the Toronto Zoo, and see what I can come up with… and there may be baby animals there too!

Christmas Time is Here…

… Happiness and Cheer!

I love Christmas time.  The visiting and celebrating with family and friends, baking, decorating, giving gifts, time off work – it’s all great!  My husband and I were both sick at the beginning of our holidays this year, and spent two days lying on the couch, hacking up a lung or two.  We even missed  out on Christmas Eve mass, and tried to watch on TV but we didn’t even make it through the first 1/2 hour before we both passed out.  But we were able to get out of the house on Christmas day to see our families, which I would have been greatly upset if we were not able to.

One of the traditions that we decided to start when we got married, is to buy one or two ornaments that reflect on the big things that have happened to us in the past year.  For our first Christmas, we got an ornament dedicated to our first Christmas as a married couple; a house for the year we bought our first house, an ornament for each pet that we have brought into our homes, and ornaments commemorating trips we’ve taken.  This year, we added a crown for our bird, Loki, who passed away in August – he thought he was the king of the castle, so only fitting that he gets a crown!

I’m sharing some photos of those ornaments, so you can share in our memories – they may not mean much to you, but we put them up every year, reminiscing on the history we are creating together.  I hope everyone also had the chance to create family traditions, and share in memories both happy and bittersweet, with your loved ones.

(p.s. – this is a new type of gallery WordPress has up – click on any photo to enlarge them all, and flip through them one by one)

Few More Indy Photos

Here are a few more photos from our trip to MotoGP in 2011.

This is why you don’t visit a zoo in the middle of the day, on a hot sunny afternoon.  Positive side – you get great focused detail, because animals don’t move when their sleeping!

Some of the riders on qualifying day.  This was on the back stretch (I think that’s what you call it…)

On the Saturday night, there was a huge street party, where all the downtown streets were shut down, and lined with bikes.  They had street parties, and stunt biking, such as this one below.  You can see just how fast they go when doing the stunts, simply by the fact that I could not get a good focus on him!
