MY365: A Personal Project for 2014

At the end of 2013, I decided that I wanted to do my own 365 project.  For those of you who may not be familiar with this, it is quite simple.  I must take a photo every day of the year, for 365 days.  They could be photos of anything, just as long as it chronicles a part of my day.  I can use either my phone, or camera, but at least one has to be used every day.  Amazingly, this is the one thing I’ve been able to keep up with even while ill, as my cell phone or camera were never that far away.  Subjects to shoot have been challenging, as I didn’t want to have three weeks straight of photos of my cats and bird (since I did spend three weeks in bed, with them by my side).

I have loved what I’ve done so far, and I’m finding it both challenging and rewarding, and it has really pushed my boundaries as to what I envision photographing every day.  Are there quite a few of my animals – of course.  But it does get less as the weeks go by.  So, what I hope is at the end of every week, I will have a wrap up, which I will share here.  But to catch up, I’ll be posting all of January, February, and the first half of March on their own posts, just so I don’t have a ton of new posts coming in one week.

So, without any further ado, here is January!

Who do they think they are?!

We got a new chair for our living room over the holidays.  A Poang chair from Ikea.  It’s a great, comfy, and very economical chair, in a bright red fabric, with dark black/brown wood.   Its my husband’s relaxing chair.   Well, apparently what we didn’t realize is that we actually bought the cats a new chair/playgym.  They were up and on it before my husband even had a chance to sit and try it out; while he was taking all the packaging to the garage, they were checking out their new chair.  So, of course, we’ve had to load it up with pillows, so they can’t sit on it.  Ritchie started scratching at the sides of the cushion, to give it that wonderful slightly used kitty touch.  And their faces show it all while I was photographing them.  I should have shooed them off, but who can resist a great bright red background to shoot them with!

Christmas Time is Here…

… Happiness and Cheer!

I love Christmas time.  The visiting and celebrating with family and friends, baking, decorating, giving gifts, time off work – it’s all great!  My husband and I were both sick at the beginning of our holidays this year, and spent two days lying on the couch, hacking up a lung or two.  We even missed  out on Christmas Eve mass, and tried to watch on TV but we didn’t even make it through the first 1/2 hour before we both passed out.  But we were able to get out of the house on Christmas day to see our families, which I would have been greatly upset if we were not able to.

One of the traditions that we decided to start when we got married, is to buy one or two ornaments that reflect on the big things that have happened to us in the past year.  For our first Christmas, we got an ornament dedicated to our first Christmas as a married couple; a house for the year we bought our first house, an ornament for each pet that we have brought into our homes, and ornaments commemorating trips we’ve taken.  This year, we added a crown for our bird, Loki, who passed away in August – he thought he was the king of the castle, so only fitting that he gets a crown!

I’m sharing some photos of those ornaments, so you can share in our memories – they may not mean much to you, but we put them up every year, reminiscing on the history we are creating together.  I hope everyone also had the chance to create family traditions, and share in memories both happy and bittersweet, with your loved ones.
