Last Post of 2013!!!

With an little under an hour to go, I just wanted to take a moment to reflect on my year. It’s one filled with highs and lows, the year starting off on a big low for me.

I started the year battling my depression, and this blog and my photography were essential with helping me through it. But from there it became more positive with many successes under my belt.

Two of the biggest ones were on a personal note: my decision to start a photography business (finishing up the details and ready to unveil soon!), and my hubby and I getting the opportunity to manage an 18 unit apartment building. Scary and exciting at the same time!

So I battled depression, almost died in a plane crash on the way to the Dominican (okay we didn’t almost die, but it was very serious with an emergency landing included), and my cell phone was stolen. But a very good friend had their first baby, I’m starting a company, we’re managing a building, and we had tons of great opportunities to spend with family and friends. A girl couldn’t ask for anything more!

And since this is a photography blog, I’ll end with a photo of our wonderful New Years Eve dinner I went out for with Nik. The foods gone, but you can tell my the empty plates it was good!

Photo Shoot – A Christmas Card Photo

A couple weekends ago I had the opportunity to do a mini photo shoot, for a Christmas card photo.  My cousin recommended me to a friend of hers, and I spent an hour or so with her and her three adorable children.  They were very active, which made it challenging to photograph them – but in a good way.  It forced me to open myself to new angles, and to get the creativity of the kids involved in deciding what shots to take.  She only needed one photo, but in the end I got her three photos to choose from.  When I first entered the home, the youngest greeted me, and I asked her what her name was.  With a cheeky glance to the side she slowly responded “Susie-poo”.  So Susie-poo it was for the hour.  They seem like a fun family, I hope I’ll have the opportunity to photograph them all together one day!

Holy $#@& – It’s Been How Long?!

I went onto my blog today, knowing that it’s been a few weeks since I last posted.  Okay, it’s been over a month! I can’t believe it!  We’ve had a lot going on here, one of which is getting my photography business together (more on that in a later post, still finalizing some stuff).  When I went to write this post, I looked at the date of the last one – November 7th.  I can’t believe that.  Way back in February I promised myself, and made an oath on this blog, that I would post at least once a week.  And I broke that promise shortly after, and this just sealed it that that’s not happening.  It’s amazing how busy life can get, and how much time ends up passing before you realize just how true the saying ‘time flies’ is.  My last post was written on a warm fall day, no jacket needed, and here I am today, waiting for this snow storm to hit that they are predicting, dreading heading outside into the cold.  And yes, I know those of you in the West (such as Alberta) have it far, far colder than we do here in Southern Ontario, but this is cold for us.  -15C with the windchill? That’s good for me, thanks!

But, I’m not here to complain about the cold, I’m here to share photos.  With Christmas fast approaching, I thought I’d share some fun ones I took last year, with my husband, his sister, and my mother-in-law.  And I promise to write before the holidays start – actually I’m not promising, I’m aiming to write before the holidays.  My promises obviously mean nothing, anyway. 🙂
