MY365: A Personal Project for 2014

At the end of 2013, I decided that I wanted to do my own 365 project.  For those of you who may not be familiar with this, it is quite simple.  I must take a photo every day of the year, for 365 days.  They could be photos of anything, just as long as it chronicles a part of my day.  I can use either my phone, or camera, but at least one has to be used every day.  Amazingly, this is the one thing I’ve been able to keep up with even while ill, as my cell phone or camera were never that far away.  Subjects to shoot have been challenging, as I didn’t want to have three weeks straight of photos of my cats and bird (since I did spend three weeks in bed, with them by my side).

I have loved what I’ve done so far, and I’m finding it both challenging and rewarding, and it has really pushed my boundaries as to what I envision photographing every day.  Are there quite a few of my animals – of course.  But it does get less as the weeks go by.  So, what I hope is at the end of every week, I will have a wrap up, which I will share here.  But to catch up, I’ll be posting all of January, February, and the first half of March on their own posts, just so I don’t have a ton of new posts coming in one week.

So, without any further ado, here is January!

Fostering a Pregnant Cat

This last week, we have been fostering a pregnant cat from the Burlington Humane Society (BHS).  I volunteer there, and a plea went out looking for someone to take this mum in.  Our honoured guest is Amber, a gorgeous Calico (I have a thing for Calicos), and on Saturday she gave birth to two adorable little kittens.  It was very exciting – my first time as ‘midwive’ to a cat birth… okay any birth, really.  I was able to take the camera in today, and get some photos, but they squirm so much that I only got one really nice one of the second kitten.  Look at that adorable dark patch on his tiny little nose – I hope he doesn’t lose that 🙂

And of course, one of Amber, the gorgeous mum.  They’ll all be going back to the BHS soon enough, and will be excited to find their new homes.  Amber is the most affectionate cat, and has been very trusting of us from the get go, which is wonderful because I have been able to experience this whole thing with her!

Who do they think they are?!

We got a new chair for our living room over the holidays.  A Poang chair from Ikea.  It’s a great, comfy, and very economical chair, in a bright red fabric, with dark black/brown wood.   Its my husband’s relaxing chair.   Well, apparently what we didn’t realize is that we actually bought the cats a new chair/playgym.  They were up and on it before my husband even had a chance to sit and try it out; while he was taking all the packaging to the garage, they were checking out their new chair.  So, of course, we’ve had to load it up with pillows, so they can’t sit on it.  Ritchie started scratching at the sides of the cushion, to give it that wonderful slightly used kitty touch.  And their faces show it all while I was photographing them.  I should have shooed them off, but who can resist a great bright red background to shoot them with!
