MY365: A Personal Project for 2014

At the end of 2013, I decided that I wanted to do my own 365 project.  For those of you who may not be familiar with this, it is quite simple.  I must take a photo every day of the year, for 365 days.  They could be photos of anything, just as long as it chronicles a part of my day.  I can use either my phone, or camera, but at least one has to be used every day.  Amazingly, this is the one thing I’ve been able to keep up with even while ill, as my cell phone or camera were never that far away.  Subjects to shoot have been challenging, as I didn’t want to have three weeks straight of photos of my cats and bird (since I did spend three weeks in bed, with them by my side).

I have loved what I’ve done so far, and I’m finding it both challenging and rewarding, and it has really pushed my boundaries as to what I envision photographing every day.  Are there quite a few of my animals – of course.  But it does get less as the weeks go by.  So, what I hope is at the end of every week, I will have a wrap up, which I will share here.  But to catch up, I’ll be posting all of January, February, and the first half of March on their own posts, just so I don’t have a ton of new posts coming in one week.

So, without any further ado, here is January!

Found a New Favourite Spot

Nik and I went out last weekend, just driving around town.  I had decided at the beginning of the drive, that we would check out this park that we had stumbled across, that was very hard to access with my little car in the winter – apparently winter maintenance was not done on the parking lot or driveway of this particular location.  Now that the weather here is beautiful, I thought it was high time we check it out.  And I fell in love.  And I’ve only seen maybe 10% of it.

I don’t even know the name of it, just know how to get there from my place.  It seems to be an old quarry that they’ve allowed to naturalize, and there’s a great swampy area with a boardwalk that runs through it.  Blackbirds, Canadian Geese, frogs, water snakes, fish – all these creatures living in one area peacefully trying to simply survive.  And what a gorgeous spot to do that as well!  I’ll be going there numerous times, to see what I can photograph.  Here are a few photos from that day.  There’s also a photo tucked in from the waterfront park here in town, with Nik checking out those stationary binoculars you can pay to use.

You’ll see another post soon about my first photo shoot, and some of those photos are taken at my new favourite spot.  Well… I guess this is kinda my first photoshoot, since Nik seems to have been my model that night!

Bird Kingdom

Every few years, Nik and I travel down the highway to Niagara Falls, and spend time at one of our favourite attractions, the Bird Kingdom.  It’s a neat place, where you get to wander around, looking at reptiles, insects, and you guessed it… birds!  We spent a few hours there today, and these are some of my favourite shots from the whole trip.  Sorry I didn’t get the names of the birds – was too busy enjoying them to learn about them 🙂
